VA Software Appoints David Appelbaum Senior Vice President of Marketing
Industry Executive Brings 17 Years of Enterprise Software Marketing Experience
FREMONT, Calif. July 10, 2002 VA Software Corporation (Nasdaq: LNUX), provider of the SourceForge[tm] collaborative software development platform, today announced the appointment of David Appelbaum, 39, as senior vice president of marketing. Mr. Appelbaum will report directly to Ali Jenab, who in a separate announcement today was named VA Software CEO and president.
Mr. Appelbaum has more than 17 years of experience in the software industry, most recently having served as general manager, North American operations, for Autonomy, Inc. Prior to Autonomy, Mr. Appelbaum was vice president of product marketing and product management at Informix Software and before that, vice president of Oracle's NT Solutions Division. Throughout his career, Mr. Appelbaum has overseen major brand marketing campaigns and product rollouts for both the US and international markets.

Mr. Appelbaum succeeds interim senior vice president of marketing Richard French, who continues to serve as senior vice president and general manager of OSDN. OSDN, a subsidiary of VA Software and home of popular web sites such as Slashdot.org and SourceForge.net, was ranked among the top five networks in the latest Nielsen//NetRatings @plan advertising report.
